Iona stayed in-house with the appointment, after Glovaski joined the college 13 years ago, serving the last 15 months as the Deputy Director of Athletics and five years as the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Advancement and External Affairs.
"I'd like to thank (President Joseph) Nyre and the search committee for this incredible and exciting opportunity,” Glovaski at an introductory press conference on Tuesday. "I'm also grateful to everyone along the way for their support and I look forward to building upon the solid foundation that has been created and working with our tremendous student-athletes, coaches and staff."
"Matt Glovaski has been a great ambassador for Iona College and its athletic department during his time in New Rochelle," Nyre stated. "We look forward to his inspiration, leadership and support for our student-athletes, coaches and administrators and the continuation of the success of Iona Athletics on the field and in the classroom and in the community."
A Trumbull native who lives in Newtown, the 39-year-old Glovaski has served various roles for Iona since his initial hiring in 2005, including six years as the head golf coach - and a MAAC Coach of the Year award in 2011 - and created a new position: Assistant Athletic Director for Recreation and Intramurals in 2005. Prior to his time in New Rochelle, Glovaski was involved in the athletic operations department at Harvard University.
"We’re going to continue to build and provide the necessary resources for our student-athletes to be successful in academics, athletics, community, and most importantly in life,” Glovaski said. "We will continue to perform with integrity, while doing things the right way and keeping in mind the well-being of our student-athletes as we strive for success in competition.”
